• How do I sign up to become an umpire?

Send your name & age to info@hilliardgirlssoftball.com; they will contact you with information about becoming an umpire for this season.

  • If I have a complaint, who do I contact?

All complaints must be submitted in writing or they are not valid. Please send the complaint to:

    Hilliard Girls' Softball Association
    P.O. Box 707
    Hilliard, Ohio 43026

Emails are also accepted. Please click on the 'Contact hGsa' link to send an email.

  • Does my daughter have to wear cleats?

No - players may wear tennis shoes. If players do wear cleats, they must wear plastic or rubber cleats. Metal cleats/spikes or any metal baseball shoes may not be worn.

  • Are players allowed to wear jewelry?

Players may not wear any jewelry (with the exception of Medic-Alert jewelry). Players may not cover over piercings with band-aids or tape - they must be removed.

  • What is the delay due to lightning?

Any lightning will delay a game for 30 minutes from the last bolt.

Rain will delay a game only at the decision of the umpire.

  • What are sliding shorts and sliders?

Sliding shorts are girls' sliding shorts that protect the back of the thigh. They are padded on the lower end and are worn under the player's shorts. They are approximately $15-30 and found in the women's section of any sporting goods store.

In addition to sliding shorts, a leg slider, also purchased at a sporting goods store, is required at a minimum to be able to slide. Leg sliders cost approximately $10.

  • Is bunting illegal in hGsa?

No - in fact, bunting is encouraged, especially in the U-8, 10, 12 and Majors leagues.

  • Do I need to buy my daughter a batting helmet?

hGsa provides each team with four batting helmets. Some players choose to bring their own.

If you are going to purchase a helmet, you should buy one that is NOCSAE-approved, has a NOCSAE face mask, and a chin strap.

  • What size bat should I buy my daughter?

While standing tall, hands at her side, the knob of the bat should come to the break of her wrist. They also should be able to hold the bat straight out to their side without the bat drooping down.

All player bats must be softball bats, baseball bats may not be used.

  • How do I find out if an hGsa game has been cancelled due to rain?

There are two ways to find out that a game has been cancelled:
    * Sign up for e-mail rainout alerts, using the "Rainout E-Mail List" link at the left.
    * Rainouts will be posted on the main page of http://www.hilliardgirlssoftball.com

  • Can teams reserve a make-up game time?

All make-up/rainout games will be postponed in the order they were scheduled. The goal is to have teams play on the same field, just during Saturday's make-up times. Teams may not request a certain time for make-up games.

  • What equipment should I buy my daughter?

hGsa provides each girl with a team shirt. Girls are responsible for their own shorts, glove, and shoes/cleats. We recommend players wait to purchase shorts until after their coach contacts them - some coaches ask players to wear certain color shorts so the team matches.

Metal cleats are NOT allowed. Girls may wear tennis shoes or plastic cleats. In order to slide, girls must wear a slider. Many girls also choose to purchase a helmet, which must have a face mask and be NOCSAE-certified. If you wish to purchase your daughter a bat, it must be a softball bat that is ASA-approved.
